CRIME FILE: Worthing's joyriders, burglaries and vandalism

TWO teenagers were arrested after joyriding on mobility scooters.

Police were alerted to two male youths "larking about" on the scooters at 4am on Friday, January 11, in Rugby Road, Worthing.

The boys were arrested for stealing the scooters from Pollard Court, a sheltered housing complex in Downview Road.

Police sergeant Ian Kerr said the crime was an example of anti-social behaviour.

The two boys have been released on bail and the police will return the mobility scooters to their owners when they have finished investigating the case.

More scooter thefts

Another mobility scooter was stolen from a communal hallway at a property in Rowlands Road, Worthing.

The scooter was found dumped and abandoned nearby after the theft on Wednesday, January 9.

French doors smashed

MORE than 20,000 worth of items were stolen after a Worthing home was burgled.

The French doors to a house in Warren Road were smashed sometime between 2pm and 7pm on Saturday, January 12.

Several electrical items, including a television and computer consoles, jewellery and clothing were stolen from the house.

A plasma screen television was abandoned at the side of the property.

Police sergeant Ian Kerr said: "A vehicle would needed to have been used because of the quantity of goods taken."

Prescription drugs stolen

A LARGE quantity of "dangerous" prescription drugs were stolen from a car in Durrington.

The drugs, which police have not named, were taken from a red Peugeot parked in Winterbourne Close.

The car was broken into overnight on Saturday and as well as the medication, which was the car owner's prescription drugs, a stereo was also taken.

Police sergeant Ian Kerr said: "The drugs stolen are large enough in quantity that they should be considered as dangerous is anyone tries to consume them.

"If they are found abandoned, they should be handed to the nearest police station."

Van thefts link

POLICE are linking a spate of thefts from vans in Worthing.

Power tools were taken from a VW Transporter van in Uplands Avenue and from one parked in Rectory Road, on Monday, January 14.

On the same night, a garage, a shed and a van were all broken into at an address in Fontwell Close.

Gardening equipment, including a chainsaw and a strimmer were stolen.

Police have linked the thefts and have urged people to look out for large quantities of building or gardening equipment at boot sales.

Car-smash vandals

VANDALS attacked a car parked in a Worthing road with an iron bar.

A Peugeot 406, parked in Rectory Road, was targeted at around 11pm on Monday, January 14.

The vandals left the scene in a dark Citreon.

Burglar locked up

A BURGLAR smashed his way into a Worthing flat and stole electrical items and cash.

The owner returned home to the flat in Westbrooke on Tuesday, January 8 at around 8.30pm, to find his front door double locked.

When the owner went to the back of the property he noticed the smashed window.

It was later discovered the flat had been burgled and that the thief had locked the front door from inside.
