Diesel spill hits harbour's birdlife
Disaster hit the Pagham harbour nature reserve last week, when up to 10,000 litres of diesel oil spilled into the water.
Oiled swans were among the first victims transported for treatment to the Brent Lodge Bird and Wildlife Trust, at Sidlesham, but other birds were also affected, including moorhens, swans, geese, wigeon and terns.
The Environment Agency acted quickly to try to minimise the impact of the diesel entering the Pagham Rife and Pagham harbour itself, and by the end of last weekend had recovered more than 7,500 litres of oil.
