Dogwalkers warned of lethal substance on East Wittering beach

BALLS of fat which are dangerous to dogs have appeared on East Wittering beach today (February 6).

Derek Garner of Chichester was walking his dog on the beach near Shore Road this morning, when he noticed the substance, which look like white balls of fat.

“It is called palm oil, it can be lethal to dogs,” he said.

He wanted to warn other dog owners to be aware of the substance.

In January, another dog walker noticed the fat balls on West Wittering beach.

A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: “Dog owners are advised to keep their pets on a lead when walking on local beaches and not to let them eat the substance.”

If your dog has been in contact with the substance, take them to the vets as soon as possible.
