East Wittering clock to be replaced

A VILLAGE clock which blew down in a storm is set to be replaced.

Time stood still in East Wittering as the millennium clock was defeated by St Jude’s storm in October.

But East Wittering and Bracklesham Parish Council agreed to buy a new clock to the tune of £17,000 to stand in its place.

The council will be able to claim some of the cash back on insurance, but the rest will come out of parish funds.

The old clock could not be repaired, and councillors said the replacement should be ‘sturdier’ than the last, which was often seen swaying in
the wind.
