WESTBOURNE residents should be on the lookout for flooding this morning (January 22), according to the Environment Agency.

More than 15mm of rail fell overnight and with high groundwater levels in the area, the River Ems rose quickly.

The EA has issued a flood warning for the River Ems at Westbourne, including New Brighton, Commonside and the B2147 at Racton House.

“Levels are continuing to rise and as a result we expect there could be property flooding in parts of Westbourne and through Lumley Lane.

“There is more rain forecast over the next few hours which is likely to cause further response in river levels.”

The warning was issued at 2.44am today.
