Mid Lavant, Shopwhyke and Chichester have been put on flood alert as water levels rise in the River Lavant.
“With rising groundwater levels and the recent heavy rain, levels have risen in the River Lavant and there is the potential of flooding particularly in and around the communities of Mid and East Lavant,” said a spokesman for the Environment Agency.
“We will continue to monitor levels in the river to make decisions on the operation of the Lavant Flood Alleviation Scheme at Westhampnett.”
Teams from the Environment Agency worked through the night to clear grills in Singleton and were clearing the river in Chichester this morning (January 6).
