Free training for Bognor Regis care home staff

Dozens of staff looking after vulnerable people in Bognor Regis have been given free training to ensure those within their care are protected from potentially fatal accidents.

The 70 care home owners, managers and employees benefited from half-day sessions held by Arun District Council's health and safety officers and supported by the Health and Safety Executive and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

The two half-day sessions at the Regis Centre offered nursing and care home staff crucial advice on key health and safety issues, including the control of water temperatures, following some incidents of scalding across the Arun and Worthing areas.

Cllr Roger Elkins, in charge of Arun's community safety work, said: "Our officers are only too happy to help carers to understand the duty they have towards their residents and recommend how best to manage risks, thereby reducing the chances of nasty accidents occurring."

The training followed full health and safety inspections in every care home in Arun by the council's health and safety officers.
