Fund in memory of artist grows
An art auction to raise money for a fund set up in memory of a popular local woman has raised an astonishing £55,000.
The event was organised by the family of Judi Meadows, who took her own life at the age of 61 earlier this year.
They want to raise money for research into factors which can increase the risk of suicide, including depression.
Scores of artists contributed to an exhibition of work in London last week, culminating in an auction conducted by Sotheby’s auctioneer Ed Rising.
One of Judi Meadows’ two daughters, Amy, said: “We raised just under 28,000 from the art work.
“With an additional 20,000 from match funding and other donations, the total is close to an incredible 55,000.
“We now have the funds to enable us to commission the first project to help save lives threatened by suicide.”
Judi Meadows grew up in Sheet, and she and her husband Roger had lived in Rogate since 1999.
More information about the memorial fund can be found at www.judimeadows.com.
Contributions can be sent to 18 Chester Road, Branksome Park, Poole, Dorset, BH13 6DD.
