A GOLDEN prize awaited the winner of a charity auction in aid of a Rotary club.

Every year, Chichester-based company Beaver Tool Hire supplies a wheelbarrow to the annual Boxing Night Charity Auction, hosted by the Rotary Club of Chichester Priory.

This year, the company was so gobsmacked by the sum put forward by the winning bidder that they took an extra step to decorate the auction lot.

And so a golden wheelbarrow was presented to John Brown, of John Brown Architecture, based in Donnington.

Neil Johnson, managing director of Beaver Tool Hire, presented the prize to the Rotary club and the winner.

Tony Criddle, from the company, said: “A chap at the Chichester auction paid a great deal for the wheelbarrow.

“It was above and beyond.”

Additionally, a gold boxing medal was mounted inside the wheelbarrow.

Because of the generosity of his donation, the team invited him to the store to pick up the wheelbarrow and have his picture taken for the paper.
