FLOODING is effecting the Observer area once more, with several flood warnings in place today (January 17).

The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for Westbourne on the River Ems, after heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours.

“Heavy overnight rainfall and high groundwater levels have meant that levels in the River Ems have risen over the past few hours,” said an Environment Agency spokesman.

“Levels are continuing to rise and as a result we expect there could be property flooding in parts of Westbourne and through Lumley Lane. We have field teams in the area monitoring the situation. Further rainfall of a showery nature will affect the area through today and then another system of rain is expected overnight”

Some roads in Bosham have flooded, including Brooks Lane and Taylors Lane, which has caused disruption for motorists.

There is also a flood alert in place for the River Lavant, which could effect areas north of Chichester and Lavant village.

Another flood alert is in place for West Dean, Singleton, Charlton, East Dean and Chilgrove, because of groundwater flooding.

There is disruption on the A27 eastbound between Tangmere and the Portfield roundabout in Chichester, after flooding on the road.

It is expected to reopen at 5pm today.
