FURTHER plans for the Westhampnett depot could see an HGV testing centre built at the Stane Street site.
A planning application has been submitted by Chichester District Council to its own planning department for permission to erect a new building for testing, with parking and access to Stane Street as well as a new vehicle exit and vehicle wash down area.
The building would be close to the transit travellers’ site, which is due to be operational next year.
Senior environmental health officer at the council Helen Kan said the site would need to be carefully managed to mitigate noise impact, adding layout and activities at the testing centre should be positioned and planned to direct noise away from the transit site.
The test centre is due to be constructed in an area of the depot which is currently used for parking and the storage of refuse and street-cleaning vans.
