Hiking for Chichester hospice
Hundreds of people will be taking to the South Downs in August for the Hike 4Hospices event.
The first hike took place last year and was organised by ten Sussex Rotary clubs to benefit hospices across the area including St Wilfrid's, Chichester, St Barnabas House, Worthing, St Peter and St James in North Chailey and The Martlets in Hove.
Between them the hospices care for around 4,000 people and their families each year and the total cost for their services is around 16m.
The hike takes place on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17, starting in Lewes and finishing at Goodwood.
Last year the event attracted 220 walkers and raised more than 30,000.
This year the rotary clubs are hoping to attract at least 500 walkers and the aim is to raise around 75,000.
The event will include four sections, the shortest five miles and the longest 14 miles.
Walkers need complete only one section, but for those who fancy a challenge, they can complete the 42 miles from start to finish.
Medals will be awarded to all participants and there will be individual and team prizes for those who raise the most sponsorship.
