Hundreds remember
Hundreds of people gathered in Petersfield on Sunday morning to mark Remembrance Day.
Despite the windy conditions and some sharp showers, a large crowd attended the outdoor service in The Square before the ceremony moved to the war memorial in the High Street.
The two minutes silence was impeccably observed and among the dignitaries who laid wreaths were East Hampshire MP Michael Mates, Petersfield's mayor Vaughan Clarke and representatives from the armed services.
Soldiers from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, based at Bordon, also attended the service.
Petersfield Royal British Legion (RBL) chairman, Cmdr Clive Lewis, said: "It was excellent, it was fantastic. All the pieces fell into place and there was a major turnout, so many thanks to the people of Petersfield."
Collectors raised a staggering 1,373 in just two hours for the Poppy Appeal.
Cmdr Lewis said: "It was nice to see so many people turning out on Remembrance Day. The reception afterwards went really well, so all in all it was a very good day."
The combined choirs of Churcher's College and St Peter's Church were performing at St Peter's yesterday (Tuesday), and all money raised is going to the RBL.
The RBL also had a World War Two Dodge truck parked at Tesco in Petersfield on Saturday to raise more funds.
A two-minute silence was also held at Petersfield Rugby Club. Children stopped their training and matches to pay their respects.
