INTERNATIONAL visitors have been welcomed to Bourne Community College in Southbourne.

The head teacher of Gonglu Secondary School, Laihai Lou, and vice-principal Jianmei Zhou of Bourne’s sister school in Pudong Province of Shanghai,

China, met staff and pupils last Friday.

Yvonne Watkins, deputy head teacher, said: “Our visitors were welcomed by our headteacher, chairman of governors and our senior prefects with head girl, Issy Gilbert.

“The students were keen to find out as much as possible about Shanghai and to discuss similarities and differences between our two schools and to explore the role of students in our school.

“They also met Tegan Ramsay, charity coordinator who along with her charity committee had organised Silly Sports day which was also happening on Friday to raise money for a local Lipreading charity.”

Following a tour of the College Mr Lou and Mr Zhou joined the College staff for coffee and to exchange gifts and plan for future exchanges of teachers and students.

The partnership was established in October 2012 as a result of strong links between Bourne Community College, HSBC Bank and the British Council in Shanghai. The guests also visited Southbourne Junior School.
