Julie Walters given honour

ONE OF Loxwood's most famous residents has accepted a special 'Walk of Stars' honour.

Oscar nominated and BAFTA winning actress Julie Walters CBE has accepted the honour of being awarded a star on the Broad Street Walk of Stars in Birmingham.

The honour is England's version of Hollywood's Walk of Fame and awards those who have made a significant contribution in the categories of music, television, film, radio, theatre, sport, business and literacy.

Julie is one of Britain's most accomplished and diverse actresses and is well known in West Sussex for her regular support of local worthy causes.

She was born in Smethwick in 1950 and trained as a nurse at Queen Mary's Hospital, Birmingham.

She left nursing to pursue an English and drama course at Manchester Polytechnic.

Since then her work has ranged from comedy to drama, theatre, television and many films including the Harry Potter movies and Mamma Mia.

The Calendar Girls star was nominated for an Oscar in the film version of Educating Rita with co-star Michael Caine in 1983.

Julie joins rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, comedy genius Jasper Carrott and Britain's best known glam rocker Noddy Holder who all accepted their star last year.
