Lavant House School is praised by inspectors

A REPORT by the Independent Schools Inspector (ISI) for Lavant House School was positive.

“Throughout the school, pupils are happily and successfully educated in response to the school’s principal aim, to enable each individual to develop her abilities to the full,” said the report, published last week.

Lavant House, previously inspected in 2008, welcomed the team of inspectors in early March.

Inspectors also said: ‘The quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent throughout the school, the arrangements for pastoral care are excellent and pupils and parents praise the attention and encouragement which all staff offer.’

“Relationships are extremely warm and supportive; pupils are quietly confident and courteous, in keeping with the graciousness which surrounds them.’

“Excellent links with parents is another strength of the school; parents value highly the small classes which enable individual attention and progress, thus giving their children the reassurance and confidence which leads to success.”

The school’s wide range of 
extra-curricular opportunities as well as its high level of boarding provision also impressed the inspectors.

Headmistress Caroline Horton said: “We were naturally delighted that the ISI report confirms the school’s excellence across a wide range of categories and we are proud they have particularly picked up on our commitment to the girls’ personal development which is so important to us here at Lavant House.

“The whole report makes very pleasing reading which is due in no small part to the continuing hard work and support of all our staff, governors and parents within the Lavant House community.

“We have a clear vision for the future here at Lavant House and have full commitment and input into our development plan from all.”

Areas for improvement included better us of time in lessons, to widen the range of topics studied by students at sixth form and to upgrade the boarding facilities to the very best standard.
