Marvellous Morris Minor at Liphook classic car event
MOTORING enthusiasts from the Midhurst and Petworth area had a bumper time at the annual classic car day held at the Deers Hut pub, Liphook – driving away with two of the three prizes.
Roger Martin from South Harting won a bottle of champagne for his restored 1962 Mini Cooper and the same honour awaited Martin Elliott, from Sutton, for his immaculate 1966 Morris Minor pick-up truck. The prize was picked up by Ian Marshall who restored the truck.
Chairman of the judges Mark Steward, from estate agent sponsors Clarke Gammon Wellers, said: "It was an incredibly difficult choice because so many people took so much trouble to present their vehicles in tip-top condition.
"The Morris Minor was just like new and when you looked underneath the bonnet it was so clean and shiny you could have eaten your lunch off it.
"We choose the Mini Cooper because it was a heap of rubbish when the owner bought it and through a labour of love he has restored it to its original state."
Some 300 cars were at the event which raised more than 2,000 for charities.
