POLICE have warned motorists to be careful today (December 26), after a number of crashes in Sussex this morning.

A Sussex Police spokesman said there were several crashes on the A27 at Chichester last night, and there were several minor collisions throughout the early hours of this morning.

Areas particularly badly hit include the A29 at Bury, the A283 at Pulborough, as well as the A24 and A280.

The police spokesman said they were working with the Highways Agency to make the roads safe, and gritters were out in force across the county.

The west of the county is the worst hit by ice and the spokesman asked drivers to be vigilant, and only drive when necessary.
