MPs investigate South East's economy

THE South East economy will come under the spotlight this week as MPs investigate the region's performance.

MPs on the South East Select Committee will question the Minister for the Region Jonathan Shaw MP about the performance of the South East Development Agency and the Regional Economic Strategy.

The public hearing will take place in Westminster Committee Room 6 starting at 3:45pm.

Also appearing before the Committee will be representatives from the Government Office for the South East and the South East England Development Agency.

The chair of the Committee Dr Stephen Ladyman MP said: "People in the South East can sometimes feel that the work of Parliament is remote from their everyday lives.

"The new South East Select Committee will help to bring politics closer to people - by shining a light on the big economic issues facing the region and holding evidence hearings in the area.

"This committee will strive to get answers for the South East - holding decision makers to account and asking the big questions on behalf of the region."

The hearing, which is open to the public, is part of the South East Committee's first inquiry into the South East England Development Agency(SEEDA) and the Regional Economic Strategy (RES).
