New direct entry and fast track recruitment opens at Sussex Police

APPLICATIONS have opened for a new national recruitment programme that will see a new direct-entry superintendent working for Sussex Police by the end of the year.

Backed by the College of Policing, the programme will also offer three fast-track opportunities for new police constables to achieve the rank of inspector in three years.

It will also offer the same chance for existing Sussex constables to join the newcomers as sergeants after their first year.

Temporary Chief Constable Giles York said: “We’re looking to attract exceptional and proven leaders to come into policing at superintendent rank, bringing with them fresh perspectives and new insights.

“Candidates will be trained over an 18 month period and given coaching and mentoring to equip them with the new skills necessary for their exciting new role.

“The fast-track scheme is an accelerated three-year promotion and development programme which will equip the most talented graduates with the skills, knowledge and experience to join the force and advance to the rank of inspector within three years.

“These new programmes welcome a wider pool of talent to enter the police service, as well as rapidly promoting the very best talent from within the service.

“They will attract individuals with new perspectives and diverse backgrounds to support development in a police force moving forward and meeting new challenges.”

Full details are available from www.sussex.police.uk/policing-in-sussex/work-with-us/police-officers. Applications close on April 22.
