Parking problems may ease in East Wittering

A £72,000 scheme aimed at curing a long-running parking problem at East Wittering was approved by Chichester District Council's executive board.

It will involve providing a new extension to the village's Marine Drive car park.

A report presented at a board meeting said a key problem identified by the local community was that at peak periods it was difficult to find a vacant on-street parking space.

The situation was further exacerbated by a significant number of spaces in the Northern Crescent car park being used all day by shop and business employees.

This left only a small number of spaces in the car park that could be used by shoppers.

"Agreement has now been reached for the Northern Crescent car park to be allocated for short-term parking, to help shoppers," the report added.

This made it necessary to provide alternative facilities to prevent roads in adjacent areas being congested.

To cope with this demand, it was proposed to provide an extension to the Marine Drive car park to cater for long-term parking. This could also be used by shoppers.
