MORE than 300 Selsey residents crushed themselves into St Peter’s churchyard to watch the open air re-enactment of Christ’s Crucifixion at 6pm on Good Friday (April 18).

Many had walked through the High Street, carrying folding chairs, an hour before the play was due to start, in order to grab a decent viewpoint.

The passion play, produced by Selsey Town councillor Nick Jones, had been six months in rehearsals, held once a week in East Beach Evangelical Church.

The cast was drawn from members of all four churches, with the title role played by Peter Hall, a well-known local actor from Emsworth.

More than 40 actors and behind-the-scenes personnel were involved in creating the open-air one-hour production.

Nick Jones, who produced the play, said he thought all those watching the play had enjoyed the spectacle.

“I believe the Passion Play will be performed every two years from now on,” he said.
