Person hit by train at Emsworth dies

A PERSON died after being hit by a train on the railway at Emsworth last night (March 24).

British Transport Police were called out at about 7.30pm and the line was closed while they dealt with the incident.

The line was closed until about 9.30pm, causing severe disruption on the trains and replacement buses ran between Chichester and Havant.

After the lines re-opened, South West Trains through Havant were delayed by up to 30 minutes and Southern services delayed by up to 90 minutes.

British Transport Police are working to identify the person who died.

British Transport Police, Hampshire police and The South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the line at Emsworth Railway Station after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

“Officers attended the incident, which was reported to police at 7.29pm, and it is currently being treated as non-suspicious,” said a British Transport Police spokesman.

“BTP are currently seeking to identify the person and next of kin.

“A file is currently being prepared for the coroner’s office.”
