A ‘DEVOTED’ Nutbourne couple are celebrating their platinum wedding anniversary.
Ron and Betty Lush have been married for 70 years.
They have one son, Mal, who is married to Susan, and have two granddaughters and five great granddaughters who all live locally.
“They were married on April 22,1944,” said Susan. “Three days after they got married he went off to France to be a chauffeur. She lived with her parents then.”
The couple met while they were at school.
“Dad lived in Emsworth and mum lived in Nutbourne at the time,” said Susan.
Ron is a keen gardener – his garden was his ‘pride and joy’– but he suffered a stroke in February. The couple worked in the Barleycorn in Nutbourne.
“They know lots of people in the area.
“She did the food and he worked behind the bar.”
Asked what she thought was the secret to Ron and Betty’s happy marriage, Susan said: “I think Dad is a very caring and patient person.
“They are absolutely devoted to each other. It’s lovely – you don’t hear about that so much any more.”
