Police hunt robbers after "cowardly" attack on Burgess Hill woman.
POLICE are trying to trace two men who attacked a woman after she tried to stop them robbing her in Burgess Hill.
They are appealing for witnesses to what they call a "cowardly robbery".
The woman was hit on the head as the two men tried to steal her handbag while she walking at the top end of a bridleway off Keymer Road, Burgess Hill.
The attack happened at about 5.20 pm on Friday January 9 as the woman walked from Burgess Hill train station to her home.
The men knocked the woman to the ground after she tried to stop them grabbing a handbag containing money, a mobile phone and credit and debit cards. The robbers then made off with the bag.
Sgt David Robinson, of Burgess Hill Police, said: "This is a nasty incident, fortunately the lady was not seriously hurt.
"While this type of offence is rare in Burgess Hill we are not complacent and will do all we can to identify and prosecute those who think they can prey on vulnerable victims. It is possible that the lady was followed from the railway station by the attackers. "
Police say both men were wearing grey long-sleeved tops - the first had either a grey hood or a grey hat and the second had a dark hood or hat.
