Selsey parade to mark D-Day

SELSEY will hold its D-Day Street Festival on Sunday (June 1), to mark 70 years since that fateful day.

A parade will leave East Beach at 11.30am, with world war one vehicles including a tank and a marching band.

Then there will be a vintage-style festival in the high street at midday, with a jazz band playing 40s music, vintage singer Jayne Darling, a vintage bus, a talent contest, Punch and Judy show and much more.

There will also be a bungie jump and bouncy castle.

Plenty of stalls will pop up along the high street, and to mark the end of the day, there will be a small air show featuring a Harvard world war one plane.

Selsey war veteran Joe Riddle, 94, will be at the day, signing copies of his book – with all proceeds going to the Apuldram Centre.

It is going to be a fantastic day,” said one of the organisers, Lyn Reeve.

All proceeds from the day
will be distributed to charities Help for Heroes, the British Legion and the Royal Naval Association.
