EVERY year the Selsey RNLI puts on a spectacular range of events for its fundraising week of the year.

And this year will be no different, with several events added to the line-up.

“It is a unique week of activities, all designed to both raise funds for the voluntary crew at Selsey Lifeboat Station and each event is in its own way, fun,” said Colvin Rae, branch chairman. “We are incredibly grateful for the support of our personal and corporate sponsors.”

The money raised will go towards a new Shannon Lifeboat for the station, at the end of 2015.

The fundraising week kicks off tomorrow (July 26), with a beach fishing competition from East Beach. It starts at 8.30am and is £10 per person to enter.

On Sunday, there will be a charity clay pigeon shoot organised by Seal Island Gun Club at the Archery Field, West Sands. This will be followed by a sea service on Lifeboat Green at 6.30pm.

On Monday, there will be a Selsey lifeboat station open evening from 6pm-9pm.

Tuesday will see a walking treasure hunt starting from the lifeboat inshore shed, from 6pm, which will finish at the Lifeboat Inn. Entry is £1 per person.

A quiz night and raffle will be held at the Seal pub starting at 9pm, with a £2 charge for entry.

A race night will be held at the Royal British Legion on Thursday, doors open at 6.30pm, racing starts at 8pm. There will be a raffle during the evening.

On Friday, August 1, there is a dog show on the Lifeboat Green starting at 5.30pm.

There are prizes for the cutest puppy, handsomest hound, prettiest pooch, waggiest tail, and many other categories.

This is followed by the famous tug-of-war where Selsey businesses and organisations battle it out for the cup at 7pm.

There will then be a firework display at 9.30pm on the Lifeboat Green.

There is plenty lined up on Saturday, August 2, with a car treasure hunt, starting at the lifeboat inshore shed between 4pm and 5pm and finishing at the Lifeboat Inn. Entry is £5 per car plus 50p per passenger.

There is also a new event lined up – a family fun afternoon with the Shayler family on Lifeboat Green from 1pm until 6pm.

With children’s circus workshops, illusionists and a magic show, it will be a great day for the family.

And the big finale is on Sunday, August 3 – Lifeboat Launch Day.

There will be various displays and attractions on Lifeboat Green including the raft race, classic car show, the GNATS Air Display Team and, of course, a lifeboat launch.

Brochures on the lifeboat week can be bought in many Selsey shops.
