TWO Selsey students will take part in a regional cooking competition, representing Sussex.

Lily Collins and Keely Samain from The Academy, Selsey, won the Sussex Create and Cook competition, and will now be taking on finalists from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Four young duos, including the 13-year-olds from Selsey, will battle it out on Thursday (June 26) at Newlyns Cookery School in North Warnborough.

With a host of professional judges, including last year’s Masterchef: The Professionals 2013 champion Steven Edwards and Isle of Wight producer Nuala Grandcourt of Wild island Dressings, it is set to be a tough competition.

Steven, who has been involved in the Create and Cook competition for the past three years, said: “In this final I am looking for a winner who demonstrates how they’re involved with the food journey from field to plate as well as using technique to get the most from their chosen ingredients.”

The champions will be awarded £1,000 for their school food technology department and also have their recipes professionally styled and photographed.
