A CHICHESTER man got a bit of a nasty sssurprise when a python flew out at him from his kitchen cupboard.
Damien Richardson, of Phoenix Close, said he ‘nearly had a heart attack’ when the animal leapt at him. It was later discovered the snake belonged to his neighbours. It had been missing for two weeks.
The Royal python is fairly small in size but Mr Richardson said: “It wasn’t so cute when it flew out of the cupboard.”
He added: “God knows how it got there. I had locked it in the kitchen at one point and it looked like it had disappeared. It had managed to wrap itself around the pipes behind the washing machine.”
Royal pythons are large-bodied, terrestrial snakes that originate from the west, east and central regions of Africa. They are also known as Ball Pythons, because of the animal’s tendency to curl into a ball when stressed or frightened. The name Royal python is based in part on the story that Cleopatra supposedly wore the snake around her wrist.
