Silent tributes to the nation's fallen

REMEMBRANCE services will take place across Arun on Sunday (November 9), to mark the 90th anniversary of the ending of World War I.

Littlehampton veterans will meet at the town's clock tower at 10.30am, before moving off towards the war memorial at 10.45am. A short service, a two-minute silence and the Last Post will commence at 11am, followed by the laying of wreaths.

Mayor Alan Gammon and his deputy Mark Butler will be at the service, as will deputy lieutenant David Tupper.

The Rustington branch of the Royal British Legion's schedule will start at 9.15am, when a parade will assemble in Churchill Parade, before falling into two ranks and marching to St Peter and St Paul Church, The Street, led by the Littlehampton Nautical Training Corps Band.

A service, conducted by Rev. Zachery Allen, will be followed by the Last Post and a two-minute silence, and afterwards the parade will make its way to the war memorial, where wreaths will be laid.

A Remembrace parade will meet at East Preston Royal British Legion, The Street, at 10.30am, before moving off to St Mary's Church, via Vicarage Lane and Station Road.

There will be a short service, at the war memorial, outside the village's library, at 12.15pm.

Angmering's Royal British Legion will hold a service at 10.45am, at Angmering Baptist Church, Station Road. TS Implacable, Cubs, Scouts and Girl Guides will all take part in a parade, which will finish with a service in The Square at 12.45am

Sections of Arundel Road, High street, Station Road and Water Lane will be closed from 11.45am to 1pm to allow for the procession.

There will be two masses at Arundel Cathedral, at 9.30am and 11.30am, and a remembrance service will be held in the Town Square at 10.45am.

* Chairman of Arun District Council, Ashvin Patel, will be holding a two-minute silence on Tuesday, November 11, Armistice Day. Maroons will be fired from the beach at Littlehampton to mark the beginning and the end.

* A service wil be held outside East Preston Royal British Legion at 11am on Tuesday.
