Sturdy play area shelter in Sidlesham is targeted by vandals
Sidlesham parish councillor Corina Hall, next to the damaged playground shelter
There is shock among the Sidlesham community after a shelter next to a new playground was ‘kicked in’ by vandals.
The quarter-inch Perspex on the shelter, used by parents watching their children in the playground off Selsey Road, had been damaged.
Chairman of the parish council Adrian Harland said this was just mindless vandalism.
He said: “We are extremely disappointed after having spent all this money on providing a shelter, not just for children in the area but from all around.”
Mr Harland said it costs around £250 to replace the side panel.
Cllr Corina Hall said: “This Perspex is extremely strong and extreme effort must have been put into the destruction of these panels.”
The shelter was noticed to have been damaged on Sunday, February 5. It lies next to the new playground, which was built two years ago after a campaign from Eleanor Scott, aged just eight at the time.
