Thousands raised for St Wilfrid’s at auction
THERE was lots to celebrate at St Wilfrid’s Hospice after a fundraising group raised a whopping £27,237 at an auction.
It was the fourth time the small committee of friends put on the event at Westbourne House School, and brings their total raised for the hospice to more than £100,000.
More than 130 people turned out at the auction in October, which takes place every other year, to bid for the 70 lots, which included a holiday in America and Wimbledon Tennis final tickets.
After counting up every penny, the auctioneer, Derek Bowerman, and chairman of the committee David Lock visited the hospice to hand over the cheque.
A grateful Jill Dennison from the hospice said: “We are just overwhelmed with the amount they have raised.”
