TWO music fans were hospitalised on Friday evening (June 6) after attending a live gig at Goodwood.
Police are appealing for witnesses after two men were assaulted in separate incidents, following drum and bass duo Chase and Status’ live DJ set.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “A 45-year-old man was hit in the face with a piece of wood as he left the entrance of the racecourse towards Town Lane at 11.40pm.
“He was taken to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, where he was treated for facial injuries.
“Another man aged 30 was also assaulted in the coach park at the race course at 11.45pm.
“He was also hit in the face and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
“He then took himself to hospital where he was found to have suffered a broken eye socket and fractured cheek bone.
“Both victims did not see their attackers and could only say they were hit from behind.”
The race course director Adam Waterworth urged anyone who might have witnessed the assaults to come forward.
“We’re obviously keen to help the police find whoever did it and hopefully help the police to take some action.
“We’re helping the police as much as we can.”
He said if any race goers had seen anything at all they should get in touch with the police immediately.
“The incidents were late on and they were out of the way,” he said.
“One of the issues we’ve got is that there weren’t people around at the time that the incidents happened.
“I doubt many people saw those particular incidents.
“If anyone did please come forward.”
Sussex Police said it was working with the Goodwood Estate and Chichester District Council to investigate the incidents.
Detective Constable Mike McKee said: “These two men were assaulted as hundreds of people were leaving the event.
“We want to hear from anyone who saw them being hit or has any information.”
Anyone who saw anything suspicious while they were leaving should call 101 or email firstname.lastname@example.org quoting serial 1716 of June 6.
Chase and Status were the first of three consecutive live music Friday nights at Goodwood. Also set to perform are Naughty Boy and Zane Lowe.
