SUSPECTED unexploded shells were taken into a charity shop yesterday (April 22), sparking a probe into the items by bomb disposal experts.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “We were called at 11.40am yesterday, to a report that a donation given to the St Wilfrid’s Hospice charity shop in Shore Road, East Wittering, by a woman, included unexploded shells.

“The items were collected and taken to Chichester police station where an army bomb disposal team examined them.

“They were inert shell cases and were taken away by the bomb disposal team.”
