POLICE have been forced to close one of the roads off the Manhood Peninsula after a house fire this afternoon (June 29).
Stockbridge Road, just south of the A27 Stockbridge roundabout, is closed while fire crews work to put out a fire that is currently believed to have started in a bedroom.
The fire spread to the roof and at its peak six fire pumps were at the scene.
The flames have now been extinguished and firefighters are working at damping out and cutting away roof tiles. They are also checking the fire has not spread to any neighbouring rooftops.
A fire investigation officer is en route to the scene. West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed there were no injuries and everyone managed to get out of the house safely.
Police were forced to close the road and direct traffic on the A27 around the Stockbridge roundabout, with queues forming on the westbound carriageway.
The queue had lengthened as more people came away from the Festival of Speed at Goodwood this afternoon.
The road is closed in both directions, meaning traffic returning from the Witterings is unable to access the Stockbridge roundabout.
