UPDATE: Lorry driver arrested after fatal accident in Midhurst

A DRIVER has been arrested after a woman died in an accident in Midhurst today (July 9).

Police are appealing for witnesses after the pedestrian was hit by a lorry in Midhurst just after 11am.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Emergency services were called to the scene in North Street at 11.13am but the 79-year-old woman from Midhurst had sadly died of her injuries at the scene.

“The lorry driver, a 62-year-old man from Watford, Hertfordshire, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and is currently in custody.”

The spokesman said at 5pm that North Street was likely to remain closed until 5.30pm while forensic investigation took place and motorists were advised to avoid the area if possible.
