COASTGUARDS continue to search the beach at Selsey where a girl is reported to have jumped into the sea this morning (July 15).

The girl was reported to have jumped into the sea in the East Beach area around 11.30am by a member of the public who then became concerned when they didn’t see her again.

A HM Coastguard helicopter and two lifeboats were at the scene.

Sussex Police said the search was stood down at 1pm, but coastguards will return at low tide.

“There have been no other reports and police are currently talking to the informant to clarify the details,” said the police spokesman.

A Solent Coastguard spokesman said: “Solent Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre received a call at 11.35am this morning with a report that a teenage girl had entered the water at Selsey, East Beach.

“The Solent Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter, Selsey Coastguard, the inshore lifeboat and the police have all been mobilised. The search is ongoing.”
