THE search for a 15-year-old girl who was reported to have jumped in the sea at Selsey has been called off.
A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesman said: “Solent Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre received a call at 11.35am this morning with a report that a young person had entered the water at Selsey, East Beach.
“The Solent Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter, Selsey Coastguard,the inshore lifeboat and the police were all mobilised.
“An exhaustive and detailed search of the immediate area was carried out but nothing was found. The search and rescue operation was stood down at 1.19pm.”
Sussex Police said: “The area has been searched by police and Coastguard following one call from a member of the public but nothing has been found to substantiate the report and the search has been called off.”
