FIREFIGHTERS and police were called after neighbours reported smelling smoke coming from a neighbouring flat in Chichester.
Two fire engines and a police car turned up at East Walls just after 11am this morning (March 19).
Neighbours had reported smelling smoke in the corridors, but the owner of the neighbouring flat was not in – sparking fears of a fire.
Firefighters used a ladder to gain entry to the property through a window, and soon realised the smell was coming from the hob – which had been left on.
The fire crew standing outside were prepared for the worst, and ready with a hose reel, but were told to ‘stand down’.
The hob was turned off and the flat was ventilated.
