VOTE: Residents given chance to have a say on future of Selsey coastline
Ideas for a business or regeneration project on Selsey's coastline are being sought.
The Selsey Coastal Trust says the suggestions should enhance the town and contribute to its long-term future.
Local people are being invited to attend workshops, run by the South Coast Design Forum, to help understand how the community wants the town to develop, while adapting to coastal change.
These will be held at Selsey Town Hall on Saturday, September 11, from
10am-midday, and Thursday, September 16, from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm.
Cllr John Connor, Chichester District Council's portfolio holder for environment, said: "We all want to help build a strong and sustainable future for Selsey. These workshops are a direct way for local people to get involved."
The trust, currently hosted by the council, is a working group looking at how Selsey's community can contribute to the town's long-term future.
It is financed by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) under its Coastal Change Pathfinder project.
The trust has spent time working with local groups to identify potential sites that could be redeveloped or regenerated, and then run as a community-led enterprise.
The six sites already identified will form the basis of the workshops.
Attendees will be asked to contribute ideas and views about their use and potential improvements.
The sites are:
* East Beach off the junction of Kingsway and Beach Road.
* Middle Fishery between East Beach and the lifeboat station.
* Oval Field from the bottom of Grafton Road on Selsey Bill.
* Oval Field to West Street.
* Offshore coastal – coastline from Medmerry to Pagham.
* Round Selsey coastal cycle track and footpath.
Cllr Connor said the six sites had been chosen because they all had existing groups associated with them.
"The intention is to make sure any ideas proposed are practical, and sustainable.
"Your comments and ideas will help shape future discussions."
Registration forms can be picked up in Selsey Town Hall main reception.
