Vulcan confirmed for Shoreham Air Show

ORGANISERS of the Shoreham Air Show have announced that the Avro Vulcan Bomber XH558 is to display at this year's 20th anniversary event.

The XH558 is the only airworthy example of the Vulcan fleet, which was operated by the RAF from 1953 to 1984.

It will display at Shoreham on both days of this year's air show – Saturday, August 22, and Sunday, August 23.

Air show organiser Don Bean MBE said he was delighted by the news, and confirmed the Vulcan's planned appearance.

Guinot wing walking

"Sponsorship has been provided that will enable us to have the wonderful aircraft gracing the skies above Shoreham both days over the display weekend," said Mr Bean.

With eight weeks to go until the show takes off, the aircraft display schedule is looking stunning and full of every type of aircraft to cater for all tastes, from modern-day, fast jets, to some of the top civilian aerobatic teams.

The Guinot wing walking team will be displaying this year – for the last time under the Guinot banner – and have promised to provide a five plane display on the Sunday.

Around 50 aircraft will display on each day, with more than 10 hours of flying across the weekend.

Spitfire

The Spitfire and Hurricane Scramble re-enactment will again be held, complete with the return of the World War One team – two contrasting wars and two contrasting displays.

Air show press officer John Periam said: "There are still some surprises to be announced and advance ticket sales are going well, thanks to the fantastic support of our sponsors who have been putting a lot of effort into promoting the airshow on our behalf.

"It is important that on show days you arrive early and listen to the local radio networks regarding traffic, as the planned appearance of the Avro Vulcan is bound to attract a lot of interest."
