POLICE in Chichester have arrested a wanted man who received a life sentence after he was convicted of murder.
Officers have apprehended local man Peter Overy, 71, who they were seeking on behalf of the Probation Service for recall to prison.
He was arrested in the town centre on Saturday morning (June 14).
Overy appeared in custody at Crawley Magistrates Court the following Monday charged with two offences of burglary and one of attempted burglary, all at the Oxfam shop in Chichester’s South Street during May and June.
He was also charged with breaching his licence.
He was sentenced to four weeks imprisonment for each offence, the sentences to run concurrently, having admitted all the offences, and was also returned to prison to continue serving his life sentence.
He had been recalled as he failed to comply with the conditions of his prison release licence.
He has a life sentence following his conviction for murder in 1991.
