West Dean course leader honoured

Catherine Croft, who teaches a course at West Dean College, has been named an honorary fellow of the British Institute of Interior Design

She will be presented with her award at the BIID Conference, entitled Interior Identities, at the Royal Geographical Society in London today.

The fellowships recognise the contribution professionals have made to the industry.

Catherine has been director of the 20th Century Society for more than ten years and is editor of the well-subscribed C20 magazine.

She has worked for English Heritage as a buildings inspector in London and the Midlands and has amassed a well-respected knowledge for period interior design.

At West Dean College, Catherine teaches a course on concrete for conservation professionals.

Daniel Hopwood, BIID president, said: “Since 2012, the BIID has presented its prestigious honorary fellowship award to an impressive selection of design luminaries.

“The design industry is very fortunate to have so many positive figures that help support, develop and shape our profession.

“The fellowship was established to recognise each individual’s contribution and dedication to the industry and to show our gratitude to their services.”

This year’s other honorary fellows are author Alain de Botton, Rosy Greenlees, fashion designer Orla Kiely and Karim Rashid.
