Major accident blocks up Chichester city centre

A main road through Chichester city centre was closed on Wednesday (October 5) after a crash between a car and motorbike.

The collision occurred at around 3.50pm on Market Avenue just next to the Cattle Market car park.

The emergency service were on the scene quickly to treat the two men who were on the motorbike which was travelling north when it was in collision with a Volvo estate car travelling south.

The young rider, a local man, suffered head injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Kings College hospital for treatment. His condition is potentially life-threatening.

The male passenger suffered what is believed to be minor injuries and was taken to St Richard’s hospital.

The man driving of the car suffered minor injuries.

The motorcyclist had made off after police had attempted to stop the motorcycle moments earlier as the passenger was not wearing a helmet.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 1081, 5/10/11.
