Marie Curie Swimathon in Chichester

THERE is still time to sign up for Swimathon 2013 and make a big splash for charity.

Westgate Leisure Chichester is one of 600 centres in the UK taking part in the Swimathon Weekend from April 27 to 29 and entries close on Wednesday, April 24.

Anyone who would like to take part and raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care can choose one of the Swimathon sessions taking place at Westgate. Sessions start at 6pm.

“Why not enter the Swimathon and get fit for spring,” said Eileen Lintell, Chichester District Council member for wellbeing, leisure and community services.

“Swimming is a great form of exercise and is relaxing for the mind and body.”

The event is open to all ages and abilities. Swimmers can choose from a 5k or 2.5k distance and team 5k or 1.5k swims are also available.

Anyone who prefers to cheer on from the sidelines can still raise money for Marie Curie by going to ‘sponsor a swimmer’ on the Swimathon page.

Westgate manager Kevin McCoy said: “It’s going to be fantastic to see so many people in our community getting in the pool to take on a challenge. People taking part will be having fun, as well as raising money for a great cause.”

The Swimathon website has advice and guidance on getting ready for the event.

Money raised will help support Marie Curie nurses providing care for more than 31,000 people with terminal illnesses.
