Nick Gibb, MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, was invited to visit the South Downs Planetarium in Chichester.

The South Downs Planetarium is one of the largest in the UK and one of its main priorities is inspiring the next generation’s interest in astronomy.

The centre has made huge progress over the last year in educating young people about studying space and science in general, with 10,000 pupils from 165 schools visiting the planetarium over the last year.

The planetarium has plans to expand its building to include a library and bookshop as well as opening up the walled garden to house Patrick Moore’s observatory.

Nick Gibb said: “I was delighted to visit the planetarium again to see how it inspires young people to take an interest in space. Run almost entirely by volunteers, we can be proud that we have such a high quality planetarium on our doorstep.”
