MP Nick Gibb took a tour through history during a visit to the county record office.
The Bognor Regis and Littlehampton MP was given a guided tour of the archives by county archivist Wendy Walker, on Friday, February 23.
Mr Gibb said: “It’s a fascinating treasure trove of the history of our area.
“I’m particularly interested in the parish records from Bognor Regis and Littlehampton.”
Mrs Walker showed Mr Gibb many records including the original documents from the trial of William Blake.
Mrs Walker said: “We’re delighted to be able to welcome Mr Gibb to the Record Office and to have the opportunity to show him the fascinating records that we hold and the wide range of services that we provide.”
The earliest document at the office is a charter of 780 AD granting land to the church of St Paul the Apostle in Earnley.
