New assistant chaplain is welcomed to diocese

A NEW assistant chaplain has been appointed to the Bishop of Chichester.

Reverend Jason Rendell, minor canon and sacrist of St Paul’s Cathedral, has been appointed to the role.

In welcoming the new assistant chaplain, Bishop of Chichester Martin Warner said: “Jason is an experienced priest who knows the detailed workings of a parish, bishop’s office and cathedral from the inside.”

Jason Rendell begins work in Chichester in August.

At St Paul’s he was a leading figure in the organisation of the service of thanksgiving for the Diamond Jubilee and the funeral of Margaret Thatcher. As sacrist, he worked closely with the cathedral vergers, volunteer servers and lay communion assistants, and presided over hundreds of weddings and baptisms.

Jason said: “It’s been a huge privilege to share in the ministry of St Paul’s, both in its daily life and everything else which fits around it.

“I have much to give thanks for during my time here, but above all for the friendship and support which I have received along with the many opportunities of meeting people.

“It is this that has been a great source of strength and encouragement, and has enabled everything else a minor canon is called upon to do, to fall into place for me.”
