Children in East Wittering can now enjoy a new playground after it was formally opened by a local school pupil.
Warwick Trumper, from East Wittering Primary School, did the honours of opening the playground at Downview Park by Downview Close. He was joined by district councillor for the area, Peter Clementson.
The new play area, called the Jubilee Playground, cost nearly £60,000 to build. The money was raised after a £20,000 grant from Chichester District Council and a generous donation of £13,500 from the FG Woodger Trust. East Wittering and Bracklesham Parish Council had also saved about £25,000 for the playground, which has been named the Jubilee Playground.
The new equipment was carefully chosen by the parish council’s working party, made up of Rod Tranchant, Steven Warner and Sylvia Main.
Mr Warner said: “I have been a parish councillor for two years but even before then money was being put aside for the playrground. When I got involved in the working party we went out to raise more funds. The new playground has really encouraged kids to go there. All the children seem to love it. I walk my boy there after he finishes school. It is such an improvement on the last.”
