A NEW statue is set to be welcomed to a housing development in Eastgate.
The statue is the work of sculptor Neil Lawson Baker, who masterminded the city’s Street Art Festival.
“Having been commissioned to produce sculptures across the globe over the last 25 years it is humbling and a huge honour to be asked to work in my home city,” said Mr Lawson Baker.
Barry Sampson, chairman of Seaward Properties, said he was keen for the sculpture to be designed by a local artist. “One of the reasons I was particularly keen to commission this particular sculpture was it reflects my long involvement in the care business, looking after children in care and children with autism and Asperger’s,” he said.
The statue, which is part of a series called Nurture and inspired by the work of Henry Moore, is due to be installed and unveiled at The Square in December.
Chichester District Council helped to agree the best location for the statue with Mr Sampson.
